Selva valdiviana Patagonia

Geographically, the Patagonia is found on the southern cone of South America, covering vast regions of Chile and Argentina. Within these enormous limits, at least five different and clearly defined eco-regions can be observed:

1- The Patagonian Scrubland: in northern Patagonia, it is known for its bushy vegetation in arid scrubland.

2- The Patagonian Atlantic covers the continental platform and its narrow coastline strip along the coast which is mostly bordered by cliffs that stretch for over 3000 kms. A warm current from Brazil encounters a cold current from the south, which provides the environment for an extremely rich variety of marine fauna throughout the whole region.

3- The Patagonian Andean Forests cover only a strip of no more than 80 kms, parallel to the Andean Mountain Range, on its eastern and western sides. These forests are humid rainforests and temperate-cool forests.

4- The High Andean Region consists of scrub covered steppes in the high mountain region.

5- The Patagonian Steppe is the most archetypal eco-region of Eastern Patagonia (Argentina), covering its plateaus almost completely along approximately a third of the entire Patagonian territory.

This diversity of eco-regions provides the basis for extremely rich flora and fauna. Thus there are endemic species (that are only found in one particular place on the planet) and species that are transformed into Patagonian singularities
